Local Heroes

Currently, most of us #stayathome. We would like to make sure that you do not get bored – so we looked through our Banff archives and found several Banff Film Tour classics for you to pass the time at home.

We dedicate this page to our "local heroes" – German and Austrian adventurers and athletes who explore the mountains right outside their doors.

Ice and Palms

Banff Tour 2019

Bikepacking, summiting mountains and skiing some iconic lines along the way, friends Max and Jochen have one dream – 5 weeks, 1,800 km and 35,000 vertical metres self-propelled across the Alps.

Full Moon

Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival 2019

Closing lift stations and the setting sun mark the end of the action for most skiers. Not for Max Kroneck and Jochen Mesle. While ski towns fall asleep they head into the mountains and see them awaking in a new light. The snow starts glistening again. Its just the sound of their skis turning in fresh snow that breaks the silence of the full moon night.
"Full Moon" was shot without any artificial light during the full moon periods of winter 2019. A challenge not only for the skiers, but also for the filmmakers.

Banff Tour 2016

Ever heard of balloonskiing? Flying up a mountain with a hot air balloon, then dropping the altitude as fast as possible and enjoying the eco-friendly powder snow - sound like a crazy idea? The “Heimschnee-Crew”, including Andreas Gumpenberger and Stefan Ager, has done it! What better way to start this event than by letting nature decide your fate and just being led by the wind. Looking for a daredevil challenge to test their limits, the freeskiing crew invented balloonskiing. It's the perfect way to experience the wonders of nature while feeling as free and unconstrained as a bird.
