Into the Canyon
If you want to experience the majestic beauty of the Grand Canyon in a relaxed way, the best option is to take several days to float downstream by boat or raft on the Colorado River. But photographer Pete McBride has something more challenging in mind. With his friend, journalist Kevin Fedarko, Pete wants to transect the entire length of the Grand Canyon on foot—a mammoth undertaking lasting several months and covering 1,200 kilometers of unforgiving terrain. The two adventurers reach their limits unexpectedly quickly, but a higher calling keeps them going: a mission to document the threats that surround one of America’s most treasured national parks. Mining, large-scale development projects, and ever-growing tourist traffic threatens this unique natural wonder and could leave irreparable damage.
